Galveston LNG Bunker Port advances with construction permit application

Galveston LNG Bunker Port, LLC, formed as a partnership between Pilot LNG and Seapath Group, has taken a significant step forward in its plans to establish the GLBP small-scale natural gas liquefaction facility on Shoal Point in Texas City, Texas. By filing applications with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the joint venture aims to secure authorization for the construction and operation of this groundbreaking project. Positioned strategically in the heart of the Galveston Bay/Greater Houston port complex, the proposed facility represents the region's pioneering initiative towards providing clean LNG as marine fuel, thereby aligning with broader sustainability goals.
This ambitious undertaking includes the installation of two natural gas liquefaction trains, capable of producing approximately 600,000 gallons per day of LNG, alongside two 3-million-gallon full containment LNG storage tanks, feed gas pre-treatment facilities, and marine loading infrastructure. Shaun Davison, Chief Development Officer of Pilot LNG, expresses confidence in meeting stringent regulatory requirements and anticipates the project to cater to the escalating demand for clean fuel supply in the Galveston Bay and US Gulf Coast region by the project's targeted completion in 2026. The partnership's project development agreement, signed in September 2023, delineates the roadmap for technical design, permitting, and marketing efforts, underlining a collaborative approach to bring this vital infrastructure project to fruition.
