Ukraine's Naftogaz to deliver U.S. LNG via Klaipeda terminal
Ukraine’s state oil and gas company Naftogaz will deliver U.S. liquefied natural gas to Ukraine via Lithuania's Klaipeda terminal for the first time, the firm said on Thursday.
Russia has sharply increased the number and intensity of strikes on Ukraine's energy sector, targeting both power plants and gas production facilities, and a partial loss of gas production capacity has forced Kyiv to increase imports.
Ukraine imports both pipeline gas, mainly from Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland, and American LNG, which it receives from terminals in Poland and Greece. Lithuania has become a new import route.
"Naftogaz Group, in cooperation with the Lithuanian state-owned energy holding Ignitis Group, has secured the supply of 90 MMm3 of U.S. liquefied natural gas," Naftogaz said in a statement.
"We are diversifying supply because, under Russia's energy terror, every new route is a security asset," Ukrainian energy minister Denys Shmyhal said on X.
