Gasconsult seeks hydrogen liquefaction process patent
As an adjunct to its LNG liquefaction activity, Gasconsult has recently filed a patent application for a new hydrogen liquefaction process. Hydrogen, a clean burning zero-carbon fuel, is now seen as a major contributor to future energy supplies. It is widely predicted to be a core pillar of meeting net zero-carbon emission targets by 2050.
Liquefaction of hydrogen is very energy intensive. Existing plants consume 10–15 kWh/kg of LH2. At 6kWh/kg, Gasconsult’s new process reduces power demand by 40%–60% and uses readily available refrigerants.
LH2 can be the most effective means of hydrogen transportation. It facilitates hydrogen distribution to refueling stations and fleet depots; and enables bulk transportation and trading of energy in a manner similar to LNG. Liquefaction and storage of LH2 is core infrastructure for many clean energy applications including providing clean-fuel backup for variable output/intermittent renewable power.
Gasconsult is seeking a partner to further develop its hydrogen liquefaction technology and welcomes interested responses.
