Global LNG imports rose 13% in first half of 2017

According to shipbroker Clarksons Platou, global LNG trade increased by 13% on the year in the first six months of 2017, to 144 metric MMt.
Asia and Europe saw the strongest growth in imports, according to the shipbroker's data.
Northeast Asia—which includes Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan—witnessed a 14% surge in imports over the six-month period to 86.6 metric MMt.
In smaller markets in Asia, the rate of growth was even higher, at 17% to 16.4 metric MMt of LNG imports.
Europe boosted its LNG imports by 15% to 23.4 metric MMt. However, the Middle East and the Americas saw relatively sluggish growth.
The Middle East measured a 3% increase in LNG imports to 8.1 metric MMt, while the Americas saw 1% growth to 9.4 metric MMt.
