Tokyo Gas, JXTG cancel gas-fired plant expansion

(Reuters) — Tokyo Gas Co and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corp said they had cancelled a 2015 plan to build two additional gas-fired power units at their jointly operated Kawasaki gas-fired power plant.
The two firms said the decision reflected a lack of economic feasibility amid increasing competition after full power market liberalization in April 2016.
The two firms in 2015 had planned to begin operations of two gas-fired units with capacity of 550 MW each in 2021.
