North America’s shale gas “revolution” has been a game-changer for the global energy industry, and has been particularly significant for the transformation of the US LNG industry. In less than 10 yr, the US has gone from a net LNG importer to one of the largest LNG-exporting countries in the world. This is especially important as the use of fuel oil and coal for power generation is dropping globally, and as gas is increasingly seen as the fuel of choice and a “bridge fuel” until renewables can achieve a larger market share.
