Ukraine gas reserves exceed 7 Bm3, analyst says
Gas reserves in Ukrainian storage facilities exceeded 7 Bm3 (billion cubic meters) as of June 6 but remain at the lowest level in the last 11 years, analyst ExPro said on Tuesday.
Ukraine has been forced to ramp up gas withdrawals from storage and increase imports this winter and spring after Russian missile attacks damaged production facilities in the east of the country.
ExPro said that storages were 22.6% full and the volume was 25.6%, or by 2.4 Bm3, less than at the same date in year earlier.
The consultancy said gas injection volumes remained higher than last year and in the first week of June, 295 MMm3 of gas were pumped into storage facilities, almost twice as much as in the same period last year.
It noted that since the beginning of this year's gas injection season on April 17, 1.6 Bm3 of gas had been pumped into storage facilities.
The former head of the Ukrainian gas transit operator, Serhiy Makogon, said earlier this year that the country needed to import up to 6.3 Bm3 of gas for the 2025/26 winter season as reserves have fallen to a record low due to war-related damage to some facilities.
He said Ukraine would need up to $3 B for gas purchases.
