Brazos Midstream to use Ortloff Recycle Split Vapor Technology from Honeywell UOP

Honeywell UOP announced that it will upgrade two cryogenic gas processing plants for Brazos Midstream, using new technology that can increase recovery of more ethane and propane typically present in natural gas. The two plants are located in the Permian Basin, in Reeves County, Texas.

UOP will upgrade two existing 200 million standard cubic foot per day gas processing plants from gas subcooled process (GSP) to recycle split vapor technology (RSV) developed by its Ortloff Engineers division. Fabrication and assembly of the modular RSV units will be provided by UOP Russell.

“The Ortloff RSV2 technology significantly improves the economics of gas processing by extracting more of the valuable natural gas liquids which otherwise would be rejected into the residue stream,” said David Dickinson, Midstream Business Leader, UOP. “With more than 150 GSP plants in operation in the US midstream, UOP is uniquely positioned provide scalable solutions incorporating Ortloff technology to help midstream companies improve the profitability of their existing assets.”

The Ortloff RSV technology improves conventional GSP cryogenic gas processing by recycling the gas product to increase the recovery rate of NGLs from about 92% to nearly 100%. With the upgraded technology, the two plants operated by Brazos Midstream will be better able to process the NGL-rich gas in Reeves County. By combining low capital and operating expense and ultra-high NGL recovery rates, the plants can provide significantly better operating margins.

Ortloff, which was acquired by UOP in 2018, brings the industry’s most advanced expertise in the recovery of high-value natural gas liquids from natural gas streams. Ortloff technologies are specialized to maximize NGL Recovery, providing customers with high operational flexibility and greater returns on plant investments. Ortloff also specializes in unique technologies for removing sulfur from refinery feedstocks, ensuring greater plant reliability and operability over the refinery lifecycle.
