Gastrade happy with gas bids for Greek offshore LNG terminal
Gastrade said that Greek and foreign gas firms have submitted satisfactory binding bids to reserve regasification capacity at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal it is building in northern Greece.
The planned facility off the port of Alexandroupolis will become Greece’s second, alongside an existing one on an islet off Athens, and will supply gas to southeast Europe via a natural gas pipeline, the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB).
Key gas market players in Greece and southeast Europe along with end consumers have reserved capacity of 2.6 billion cubic metres per year, with the long-term profile of binding offers reaching 15 years, Gastrade said in a statement.
Gastrade, part of Greek energy group Copelouzos, said a satisfactory result in the market test was key for proceeding with the project, which it expects to start operating in 2022.
In addition to Gastrade, Greek gas utility DEPA and GasLog hold 20% each in the new LNG terminal. Bulgaria has also said that it will buy another 20% stake in the project. (Reporting by Angeliki Koutantou; Editing by Alexander Smith)
