Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG Train 3 closed for maintenance

Reuters—Production from Train 3 at Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG export plant, located on the border of Jefferson County, Texas and Cameron Parish, Louisiana, has been suspended for maintenance, a spokesperson for the company said on Friday.

The spokesperson did not provide further details about the cause or impact of the outage, only adding that maintenance was a routine aspect of plant operations.

"We continue to meet our obligations to customers," he said.

Traders variously speculated about the duration of the shutdown, ranging from three weeks to six months.

The offtaker of volumes from Train 3 is Korea Gas Corp., but deliveries have so far not shown any sign of being disrupted, a trader said.

"They are using production from other trains to compensate for the maintenance," the trader added.

On Thursday morning, the mayor of Port Arthur, Texas called for a voluntary evacuation of resident from Sabine Pass due to the expected storm surge from Hurricane Harvey.
