Romania to start gas production at new Caragele field in 2019
5/15/2017
BUCHAREST (Reuters) -- Romanian state-owned gas producer Romgaz will start production in 2019 at a newly discovered gas field, its biggest find in three decades, the government said on Friday.
The 35 km-long Caragele field, in the central Romanian county of Buzau, has an estimated accumulation of gas of roughly 25 Bcm–27 Bcm, which could ensure the country's entire consumption for up to three years.
Production will require overall investment of 140 MM euros, with 40 MM euros to be spent this year. Romania is one of the European Union's most energy-independent states and unlike many of its emerging European peers it imports only about a tenth of its gas needs from Russia.
