Poland's Gaz-System, Ukraine's Ukrtransgas ink gas link deal

WARSAW (Reuters) -- Poland's Gaz-System has signed an agreement with Ukraine's Ukrtransgas to build a gas link to boost exports, the gas grid operator said on Thursday.

Having completed a feasibility study in 2015, the operators expect to boost export capacity to Ukraine to 5 Bcm in 2020 from around 1.5 Bcm currently.

"The signed agreement regulates the cooperation of both operators during the engineering phase and - depending on the investment decision - during future implementation phase," Gaz-System said in a statement.

Poland and Ukraine are both highly dependent on gas imports from Russia.

Last week their two presidents pledge to act jointly to block projects that could result in Russia's Gazprom gaining greater access to the European gas market by bypassing Ukraine.
