BP T&T’s first LNG cargo passes through expanded Panama Canal

BP Trinidad and Tobago LLC (“bpTT”) issued photos of the passage of the BP British Merchant through the newly expanded Panama Canal.
The British Merchant, operated by BP Shipping left Atlantic LNG at Point Fortin July 26, 2016 with its cargo destined for Mexico. It was the first LNG tanker from Trinidad and Tobago to make its way through the expanded Panama Canal which was officially opened June 26, 2016.
The Expanded Canal (referred to as post-Panamax) can now accommodate 90% of the world’s LNG tankers, which will have a major impact on global LNG flows and offer numerous benefits to shippers. Trinidad and Tobago’s LNG will benefit from enhanced market access particularly to the Asian markets.
