The EIA expects that total U.S. consumption of natural gas will average 83.7 Bft3d in 2020, down 1.8% from 2019. The expected decline reflects less heating demand in early 2020. U.S. dry natural gas production is forecast to average 90.6 Bft3d in 2020, down from an average of 93.1 Bft3d in 2019. Production is anticipated to begin rising in 2Q 2021 in response to higher natural gas and crude oil prices. The EIA also forecasts that U.S. LNG exports will return to pre-COVID levels by year-end and will average more than 9.0 Bft3d from December 2020 through February 2021.
