U.S. Industry Metrics
2/1/2020
The U.S. has been a net exporter of gas for more than a year, with a sharp rise in exports in 2019 helped by an increase in LNG shipments from eight new trains at three projects: Cameron LNG, Freeport LNG and Elba Island LNG. Domestic natural gas production also reached new highs in 2019. Similar to 2018, last year showed record levels of natural gas production, driven by growth in the Permian, Appalachian, and Haynesville basins. New pipeline capacity supported the higher production, particularly in the Permian, where prices were very low due to insufficient pipeline infrastructure to move natural gas out of the region.
